HISTON v Coventry United
Kick Off 3pm
Match Sponsored by Histon Hornets
Bridge Road hosts it ‘s penultimate UCL fixture of the season, as Coventry United make the trip down the A14 to Cambridgeshire. This game comes after back to back defeats were suffered by The Stutes against two of the leagues top three sides. Despite this Lance Key’s somewhat threadbare squad certainly came out of both fixtures with plenty of praise and could count themselves unlucky not to have gained something from both ties.
We met our visitors from the East Midlands back on November 26th at their home of Butts Park, where Lance Key’s men claimed all three points. Connor Barnes opened the scoring within 10 minutes, before Jared Bradshaw equalised for the home side shortly after. The winner came from thanks to debutant Ben Hurrion 5 minutes before half time. The Stutes did have two great opportunities to strengthen their hold on the game, however two Max York penalties were well saved by the hosts goalkeeper. 7 minutes from time the hosts went down to 10 men, though this did not appear hamper their inspired late efforts to draw level.
The Red and Greens last scheduled outing at GNG Oadby Town was postponed due a waterlogged pitch, with a 2-0 away defeat at a resurgent Desborough Town played out on Tuesday March 28th . Carl Nolan’s side had previously edged out Rothwell Corinthians 3-2 after a convincing 4-0 win at Eynesbury Rovers. Ahead of this a narrow 3-2 loss was suffered at Newport Pagnell Town after back to back draws with the struggling Long Buckby and Godmanchester Rovers. On Bank Holiday Monday they face a stiff test as the visit their City neighbours Sphinx who have plenty to play for in their title charge.
Coventry come into Saturday’s game having scored 61 times in their 29 league fixtures, with 25 of these having come away from their home of Butts Park. The Red and Greens leading scorer is Joseph Agunbiade with 10, whilst Kyle Carey and Riley Davoile have both hit the back of the net 8 times. Miles Adams and Renato Prifti have also proven capable in the final third having scored on 6 occasions.
Stutes Manager Lance Key will be looking for a reaction following the two defeats his side have recently suffered, though encouraging signs were evident in both outings. Whilst Max York makes a welcome return to the fray, skipper Ollie Brookes and experienced striker Dan Brown are unavailable adding to the long term loss of Pat Bexfield.
