After Storm Darragh wiped out all our senior fixtures over the weekend, our First team are back in action on Tuesday night when Over Sports are our visitors in the 2nd round of the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup. The county’s top senior competition is one which the Stutes have lifted on seven previous occasions, but the last success is now almost 20 years ago. Chris Nunn’s side will therefore be eager to ensure we progress to the semi-final stage for a second successive season with a win against the Cambs Premier League side.
The CIC has a history of producing cup upsets and we will need to be on our guard if we are to avoid falling victims to such as result. Over Sports currently top the table in the Cambs League Premier Division, which is Step 7 of the non-league pyramid. They reached the second stage of the competition by defeating Whittlesey Athletic away from home in Round One while the Stutes were given a bye into the second round.
Over are currently enjoying a rich vein of form with five wins and a draw in their last six games. Striker Ryan Cotton has scored in each of their last three games and will be keen to extend that run in a game which our visitors will have been looking forward to since the draw was made.
Admission on the night will be at the reduced rate of £5 for adults and £2 for under 17s. Accompanied under 12s will be admitted free. The game will be played to a final result with penalties after 90 minutes if required. The bar will be open as usual.
The Bridge Road pitch has had to put up with a lot of water falling on it so far this month, so do keep an eye on this website and our other social media platforms before setting out for the game.
