Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round
Saturday 12th September 2020
Our first game back for over six months ended in defeat as we went out of the FA Cup at Biggleswade yesterday afternoon.
Both sides went at each other in a bright opening to the game but without testing either keeper until Alan Fleming put the hosts ahead with a close range finish fro Adam Hunt’s low cross from the right. Ed Rolph went agonisingly close to levelling things twice with powerful headers from Lee Smith corners but one was cleared off the line and one went just wide.
We were close again early in the second half when Tobi Lawal’s shot was blocked inside the six yard box before ‘wade keeper Tyler Jospehs pushed a close range effort over the bar. Both sides continued to defend well though and again neither keeper was really tested throughout the rest of the game. There were shouts for a Histon penalty late on when Lawal went down but the referee wasn’t having it and we couldn’t find a way through.
We begin our league campaign next Saturday with a trip to Heybridge Swifts, more details on that to be confirmed soon
