Following an approach from Grays Athletic, we can confirm that Danny Gould has left Histon FC to join the South Essex club with immediate effect.
Danny made his senior debut for the Stutes in January 2016 after coming through the Histon Scholarship programme. He was given his league debut as an 18-year-old by Steve Fallon and he quickly became a favourite with Histon fans, not least because of his ability to score spectacular goals from distance. Affectionately known as “Zuko” due to his uncanny resemblance to the character played by John Travolta in the film Grease, he went on to make 237 appearances for the First team and scored 34 goals in a career that spanned 10 seasons. He has made nine appearances this season and was in the starting line-up in each of our last four games.
Throughout his time at Bridge Road, Danny has commuted from his home in Essex to both play and train with the club and this journey is a major factor in his deciding to play for his local club. Danny previously had a spell with Grays at the start of the 2021/22 season while Histon were playing in the Northern Premier League but was back at Bridge Road by the mid-season mark.
On losing his First team asset, Manager Chris Nunn said, “I was sorry to lose Danny Gould this week, but I fully understand his reasons for wanting to return to Grays Athletic after they made an approach for him. The travelling to away games from his home in South Essex, plus the midweek training, has been difficult for him, so despite me wanting him to stay I understand him wanting to play nearer to his home. I wish him all the best of luck on his return to Grays.”
All at Histon FC will echo Nunny’s sentiments and wish Danny every success with his new club.
