Histon Football Club is delighted to announce that Olly Brookes has agreed to lead Lance Key’s side, and take the captain’s armband for the upcoming season.
The influential central defender was ever present after joining in October of 2021 from Cambridgeshire Premier League side Great Shelford. He went on to make 26 appearances, scoring twice, and has become a firm fans favourite at Bridge Road.
On his appointment Brookes had the following to say, “I am honoured to be leading such a fantastic club, steeped in history, and with a strong fan base into the 2022/23 season. After the disappointment of last season’s relegation, it is up to us as a team to come back fighting stronger, and I am grateful for the opportunity that Lance has given me to captain the side. The facilities, youth development, and fan base we have at Histon are fantastic, so it will be a cohesive effort from both players, and management to get us climbing up the pyramid again. I look forward to the season ahead, and can’t wait for what awaits us in the UCL. I look forward to seeing all of our fans cheering us on at The Bridge, Up the Stutes!”
Manager, Lance Key suggests Brookes was a stand out candidate, “In terms of a decision from the management, it was an easy one as Olly had fitted straight into the squad last year, when we were trying to find our feet in the Northern League. He just came in, and gave us everything, both on, and off the field. His enthusiasm rubbed off in the dressing room, so it was an easy decision to give Olly this opportunity, knowing that he will embrace it, and have the affect that we want within the dressing room.”
The new skipper’s first game with the armband shall be in under 3 weeks time, as The Stutes visit his former side, Great Shelford, Wednesday July 13th, Kick Off 18:30
