HISTON v Cogenhoe United
Kick Off 3pm
Match Sponsored by Sun Skips Matchball Sponsored by Hudson Timber
For the second time in just five days The Stutes face Cogenhoe United in United Counties League action, this time within the home comforts of Bridge Road.
Tuesday evening’s tie at Compton Park went in the favour of Lance Key’s side, thanks to goals from Max York, Dexter Todd and Bubba Camara. Sam Roach again saved a spot kick to make it 4 saves from the last 4 penalties faced for our Number 1. Our in form shot stopper is set to make his 200th appearance in Stutes colours in this clash at Bridge Road.
Having come away with a further 3 points, Histon ‘s unbeaten stretch was extended to 8 games, having now only conceded one goal during those 720+ minutes of football. However there were times on Tuesday evenings when The Cooks threatened to add to the goals conceded column in addition to their golden opportunity from 12 yards.
The last time the two sides met at Bridge Road, Cogenhoe United claimed a victory by the slimmest of margins on September 23rd 2017 in The FA Vase Second Qualifying Round. This was part of a run that saw the Northamptonshire side reach the Fourth Round Proper for the fifth time.
Last term in the UCL The Cooks finished in a credible 12th place, however they shall be hoping for a slight improvement on that with a top 10 finish in sight. With both GNG Oadby Town and Easington Sports going through a sticky patch Cogenhoe have a great opportunity to finish the season in a positive manner and creep towards 9th.
Lance Key will have been encouraged by a disciplined performance from his side in midweek, though possibly the most pleasing aspect was the full debut of Dexter Todd that culminated with a beak away goal for the teenager. That, and the continued positive balance of youth and experience within the side would have been a highlight. In-fact 7 of the 16 in Tuesday’s matchday squad have seen the field within the club’s youth system.
The Manager will again be without Pat Bexfield as he seeks to regain full fitness, whilst Luke Crisp also remains a doubt. With the flair and attack that the boss has possessed on his bench, it gives a further opportunity for minutes and experience to be gained from our blossoming youth products.
