With the pre-season games now behind us, the serious action gets under way at Bridge Road this Saturday with our opening game of the GCE Hire Fleet Ltd United Counties League season.
Providing the opposition on Saturday afternoon will be newly promoted Northampton Sileby Rangers in what will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs. The team from Moulton in Northants were promoted from the Spartan South Midlands League Division One last season and, much like ourselves, have been busy strengthening their squad over the past few months in preparation for the challenges ahead. They will no doubt be looking to continue the run of success that got them through last season’s play-offs and to start life in the higher division where they left off last April.
The Stutes also finished the 2023/24 season on an upward trajectory, topping the current form table in the later stages of the season. That run of results means our management team now faces something of a dilemma as they ponder over whether to give league debuts to some of the new additions to the squad. The new arrivals include Charlie Black from Kempston Rovers, former Lakenheath midfielder Luke Young, the experienced former Walsham le Willows and Lakenheath defender Karl Saffery plus the return of our own Matty Allan who needs little introduction to Stutes fans. With other players also impressing during our pre-season friendlies the list of new signings may have grown even further before the weekend. Most of last year’s squad has also remained at the club, meaning competition for places in the Stutes’ starting line-up will be hotly contested over the next few weeks.
Kick-off for tomorrow’s game is at 3.00pm with the upstairs bar open and showing live Sky and TNT sport from 1.30pm. The burger bar will also be open for hot food, including top quality burgers and sausages provided by the Histon Chop Shop. Our matchday programme, which last season won the award for being the best in the United Counties League, will be available to purchase from the seller just inside the turnstile.
Admission to the game is £10 for adults, £6 for concessions, £3 for 12 to 17-year-olds and accompanied under 12s are free. Alternatively, season tickets can be purchased prior to the game at 2024/25 Season Ticket – Histon FC
