HISTON v NEWPORT PAGNELL TOWN
United Counties League, Premier Division South
Saturday September 2nd 2022
Kick Off 3:00pm
Another stern test awaits Lance Key’s men, as The Swans arrive at Bridge Road looking to maintain their form that sees them in 2nd place in the league. They shall no doubt be looking to capitalise on their fine FA Vase success at Wembley Stadium with a strong attempt to attain Step 4 status, having captured the imagination of their catchment area, and far beyond.
Last time out, a week ago Pagnell recorded a credible home draw with highly tipped Rugby Town, Ben Shepherd recording the goal at Willen Road. This draw, and the one at Long Buckby back on August 2nd are the only points dropped by The Swans thus far. The 10 league goals scored have been well spread around Gary Flinn’s side, however Albie Hall may well prove to be the main threat with 3 to his name so far.
We have met the Swans before, just last season, in a game Stutes fans may well wish to forget. Key’s men made the journey to Willen Road in FA Cup action, and duly exited the competition on the back of a 4-1 defeat. Goals for the hosts coming from Daryl Smith, Michael Lyon, and Jake Watkinson. The consolation came from former skipper, Ed Rolph.
For The Stutes, they go into the game with a positive mindset, having overcome March Town United with a hard earned victory over the league leaders on Monday. Manager Lance Key shall of course be hoping that captain Ollie Brookes has been able to shrug of his knock picked up late on during that win, and that Rhys Thorpe has not shown and ill effects from the rough treatment he received in the Vase victory prior. Luke Crisp will also be assessed, having left the game after 30 minutes on Monday.
