Cambridgeshire FA Invitation Cup
HISTON v Cambridge University Press
Kick Off 7:45pm
Both sides enter the County Cup, as we entertain our Cambs League, Premier Division neighbours who bring with them a number of familiar faces to Bridge Road.
Our visitors currently occupy 2nd spot in the counties top flight, with West Wratting the only side above them, 6 points clear of Press, albeit having played a game more. Press are under the stewardship of Alex Kaufman, and his assistant Mark Pleasants, both of whom have had recent involvement within the youth set up here at Bridge Road. Within their side are number of former Stutes, including Matthew Price who had a spell at the end of last season, along with Bahador Chizari who is dual registered with Press. Plenty of experience is with Kaufman’s side, with local duo Nick Heap, and Jack Watson a driving force in midfield, whilst veteran striker Dan Heron continues to be a thorn in many teams sides.
In their last outing on Saturday, they swept aside Witchford 96 4-0, thanks to a brace from Heron, along with goals from Chizari and Tom Gray. The main danger in the final third looks to come from the aforementioned Heron, he has scored 9 goals in as many appearances.
For The Stutes, Lance Key is likely to name a relatively strong side for the fixture, with new signing Connor Barnes seeking to get more minutes under his belt following an impressive debut on Saturday. Marcus Cole, and Mar-Lee Fisher are also expected to gain more minutes following their dominance over Long Buckby whilst moving through their back line at pace. Bubba Camara will once again be available having missed Saturday’s game through suspension, whilst Key may look to stick with goalkeeper Chris Gough following a clean sheet at the weekend. Luke Lindsay is likely to be rested, nursing a minor hamstring issue, whilst unfortunately it has been confirmed that fellow striker Dan Brown will face at least a month on the sidelines, having chipped a bone in his foot.
Admission has been reduced to just £5, with U16’s gaining entry free of charge. A reminder that season tickets are not valid, given this is a cup fixture.
