Eynesbury Rovers are the visitors to Bridge Road on Tuesday night for a game which rounds off an epic run of 6 game in 17 days for the Stutes.  It will be the second meeting between the two sides this season after an almost unbelievable end to our game at the Alfred Hall Memorial Ground in late August.  For those who need reminding, it looked to all the world like Max York had nodded in the winning goal deep into added time, only for a defender to make a miraculous goalline clearance and set up a 98th minute goal at the other end to give Rovers the three point.

In the short time since that last meeting, both sides have made several changes to their personnel.  The Eynesbury side is likely to include Sam Roach, who will be making a swift return to Bridge Road after making in excess of 250 appearances for the Stutes.  Also likely to feature in the visitors’ line-up is our former captain Ollie Brookes, who along with Roachie will be given a warm welcome back to Bridge Road.

Meetings between the two sides have been relatively rare given the short distance between our two grounds.  In fact, we have met just eight time previously in all competitions with Histon winning three, Rovers three and two games drawn.  In the corresponding fixture last season, Danny Gould scored a 34th minute winner to give us a 1-0 win.  A quirky fact to arise in our eight previous meetings is that Max York has scored in four of them – a fact which is probably unrelated to him having once playing for Rovers – and it would have been five but for the aforementioned goalline clearance.

The Stutes will go into the game defending an unbeaten home record stretching back to March of this year and with the option of fielding the Manager’s latest signing, Luca Cardines, who joined the club this week.  As it stands, both sides are locked together on 16 points in the UCL Premier South league table.  Histon have the better goal difference, but Eynesbury have played one game fewer.

Admission will be the usual £10 for adults, £6 for concessions, £2 for 12 to 17-year-olds and accompanied Under 11s are admitted free.  Kick-off is at 7.45 pm with the bar open at 6.00 pm and the food bar open throughout.  Our award-winning matchday programme will be available at £2.00.

With two former Stutes in the opposing side, it promises to be an electrifying evening under the lights at Bridge Road.  Whether the game will have the same sting in it’s tail as our last meeting remains to be seen, but it is one you will not want to miss!
