We play our 4th game in 11 days on Tuesday evening when we visit Yaxley’s MOTiQ Stadium for a United Counties League fixture. The match comes just four weeks after the two sides met under the floodlights at Bridge Road in a pulsating encounter that finished in a 4-4 draw after we had twice led by two goals. On that occasion, Yaxley scored with almost the last kick of the game to snatch a point after goals from Mattia D’Angelo, Max York and two from Joe Sutton looked to have secured a win. What we can be sure of this time around is that nobody will be leaving the ground before the final whistle.
Almost every game Yaxley has featured in this season has been a goal-fest. Only top of the table Aylestone Park have scored more league goals than the Cuckoos, but with 35 goals conceded in their 13 league games, only the sides currently occupying the bottom two places in the table have conceded more. This point was emphasized in their game at the weekend at home to Coventry United which ended in a 5-4 home win.
Yaxley’s main dangerman is Riley Barfoot who has scored in each of the last five games he has started, and with 12 goals to his name so far, he is third in the division’s goal scorers list.
We go into the game just one point and one league position behind our hosts but with a superior goal difference. A win will take us up to 7th place in the table, three points behind Daventry Town in the final play-off position but with a game in hand. There is therefore every incentive for the Stutes to look for a repeat of the 2-1 win we secured at the same venue last season and build upon the outstanding result achieved at Daventry on Saturday. With plenty of goals virtually guaranteed, can you afford to miss this game against one of our Cambridgeshire rivals?
At just 33 miles from Bridge Road, this fixture is one of our more local games. Unconfirmed admission prices at Yaxley are £8 for adults and £4 for concessions. There is car parking at the ground, which is accessible via Leadings Drove. The postcode for your SatNav is PE7 3NA.
