HISTON U18’s 2 Cambridge United U16’s 1
Histon edged a competitive derby match against Cambridge United in their penultimate pre-season game.
Histon’s first opportunity came in the 22nd minute as Kyle Morgan-Willett found space inside the penalty area to get a shot off. His effort was pushed away by the keepr, but only as far as Ollie Foley whose shot was then quickly smothered by the visitors keeper.
Just a minute later, Cambridge United had an opportunity to open the scoring themselves, as Lucas Lowery went round the keeper but was stopped by a sliding Jack Sherrington who managed to prevent an almost certain goal.
In the 43rd minute, the scoring was opened by Histon through defender Fred Thompson. A Morgan-Willett set piece from wide was first met by Foley, whose effort came off the bar; however, Thompson was on hand to head in the rebound.
In the 67th minute, Cambridge United were awarded a penalty, as Robert Mizon’s lunging challenge in the box on McDougald was a fraction too late and brought the forward to the ground. Lowery stepped up and sent Bradley Monks the wrong way as the penalty was driven down the middle of the goal.
Just four minutes from full-time, Histon found their winner through trialist Henry Silver. The forward received the ball just inside the box with it all to do. He first beat two defenders with some trickery and then beat the keeper as he cut in and found the back of the net.
The Stutes managed to hold onto their lead and took bragging rights in this Cambridgeshire derby.
Alfie Oakman’s U18’s side now look towards a final pre-season game away at Deeping Rangers on Thursday 10th August.
